My story

Built by one person, for real people

Finent is a solo project — no team, no investors, no agenda. Just me, trying to make budgeting less miserable.

Hi, I'm Alex

I'm a software developer who got tired of juggling spreadsheets between paydays. Every budgeting app I tried gave me a pretty monthly summary — but none of them answered the question I actually needed answered: "Do I have enough to cover everything before I get paid again?"

So I built Finent. It started as a personal project, became something I used every day, and eventually turned into something I wanted to share. There's no company behind it, no monetisation plan, no roadmap driven by investors. It's just a tool I'm genuinely proud of and keep improving in my spare time.

If something's broken, that's on me. If something's missing, I want to hear about it. And if it's working well for you — that genuinely makes my day.

If you are enjoying Finent, please consider buying me a coffee. It helps me keep the lights on and the code flowing.

The problem I set out to solve

Most budgeting apps show you a monthly summary. But most people don't think in months — they think in paydays. The real question isn't "How much did I spend this month?" It's "Can I cover everything before my next payday?"

Finent is built around that question. It knows when your next payday is, which bills fall in that window, and exactly how much you should set aside right now.

On top of that, I apply the tried-and-tested 50/30/20 rule to give you a clear picture of whether your spending is balanced — and where to adjust if it isn't.

50%
Needs

Rent, groceries, utilities — things you genuinely cannot do without.

30%
Wants

Dining out, streaming, hobbies — enjoyable but trimmable.

20%
Savings

Emergency fund, investments, debt — building a real buffer.

What I believe in

The principles that guide every decision I make building Finent.

Radical transparency

No hidden behaviour, no black-box algorithms. What you see is what you get — and the code is open source if you want to check for yourself.

Your data, your rules

I never sell, rent, or share your financial data with anyone. You can export or delete everything at any time — no questions asked.

Pragmatic simplicity

No gamification, no badge system, no premium tiers. Just the tools you need to understand your money — nothing more.

Give it a go

Free, private, and built with care. I'd love for it to be useful to you.
